Castle & Cooke Cold Storage announces company name change; move to new headquarters; and 30th Anniversary celebration

ColtonOctober 1, 2009

Castle & Cooke, established in 1851 as a real estate corporation in Hawaii, is proud to announce the renaming of its two commercial refrigerated and dry storage warehouse companies – Inland Cold Storage (ICS) and Madison Warehousing – as Castle & Cooke Cold Storage.

Headquarters for the newly named company, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has moved to Colton, Calif. from its previous location in Riverside.

"We are extremely pleased to be known as Castle & Cooke Cold Storage," said ICS founder and CEO William "Bill" Hendricksen. "Our vision always has been simply to be the best and this merger and name change allows us to continue to serve our present customers and to welcome new ones from around the country."

Hendricksen remains as CEO of Castle & Cooke Cold Storage.

"We are pleased to be celebrating our 30th Anniversary with a new name and a beautiful new headquarters facility," Hendricksen said. "The anniversary is quite an achievement in itself and the fact we continue to grow under the new banner of Castle & Cooke is another significant milestone. We could not be more excited about our future."

Castle & Cooke has diversified nationally and internationally in a wide variety of businesses over the past 15 decades.

C&C Cold Storage, a privately held company, encompasses complete warehousing and logistics services, joining the forces and facilities of the former Inland Cold Storage, a 10-facility company in California, and Madison Warehouse Corp., a 15-unit company headquartered in St. Louis, to create the 25-location entity, one of the largest warehousing firms in the country.

"Castle & Cooke has a long history, a prestigious reputation, and has been a successful business model for more than 150 years," Hendricksen said. "With our 1,500 associates at our 25 nationwide locations, we will be able to contribute our expertise and go forward under the Castle & Cooke banner, which will enable us to continue as a formidable force in this industry."

Castle & Cooke Cold Storage has moved into new headquarters in Colton, Calif., site of two warehouses and a separate headquarters building. "This move allows us to position ourselves for further growth," Hendricksen said.

ICS was founded in 1979 by Hendricksen with an initial development of a 47,250-square foot cold storage building in Riverside, Calif.

ICS met with immediate success, doubling in size in less than two years, opening a second freezer facility in Ontario, Calif., in 1982, again doubling in size, and has undergone expansion on a regular basis, again in Riverside with new buildings, followed by additional facilities in Vernon (Los Angeles), Fontana, and Rialto, Calif. In February, the company opened a newly constructed facility in the Port of Stockton, Calif.

Madison Warehouse Corporation, formerly headquartered in St. Louis, with 15 facilities throughout the Midwest and in Baltimore and Savannah on the East Coast, joins ICS under the Castle & Cooke banner.

Combined, the company’s 25 locations – with a total of more than 7.2 million square feet – make it one of the largest such companies in the United States.

Castle & Cooke Cold Storage may be reached at 21700 Barton Road, Colton, CA 92324. The new phone number is: 909-433-3100. The fax number is 909-370-1755.
